Share of Answer

ECHO's primary output metric. Across the queries that matter to your business, the percentage of AI-generated responses in which your brand appears.

What does Share of Answer mean?

ECHO's primary output metric. Across the queries that matter to your business, the percentage of AI-generated responses in which your brand appears. Measures presence rather than position, because within a generated answer there is no position two.

Quoted without alteration from the glossary of ECHO: How to Make AI Recommend Your Brand.

Share of Answer is one of three terms the book identifies as Peter Victor Jones's own coinage rather than established industry or research vocabulary. The book is explicit about the distinction, because the research outlasts any platform's behaviour and a framework metric should not be presented as a settled standard.

Which ECHO pillar does Share of Answer belong to?

Share of Answer belongs to Output, pillar 4 of the ECHO framework. Can you tell whether any of it is working?

The fourth ECHO pillar. The measurement layer: knowing whether the other three are working, and connecting AI visibility to leads, traffic and revenue.

If you cannot tell which of these is happening, the problem is Output, and that is where to start. It is built in part 5: output, across chapter 9 and chapter 10.

  • The fourth ECHO pillar. The measurement layer: knowing whether the other three are working, and connecting AI visibility to leads, traffic and revenue.

  • The older visibility metric: the percentage of search results for target keywords that feature your brand.

  • A query resolved without the user visiting any result.
